Since 1998, Hillsborough Beautification Foundation (HBF) has been dedicated to enhancing the beauty of our public landscapes and providing opportunities for community engagement.

HBF collaborates closely with the Town, Hillsborough School District, Hillsborough Schools Associated Parents’ Groups, the Police Department and residents to achieve its mission and to bring the community together by hosting events such as Veterans Day Ceremony, Light up the Town and Celebrate May!

HBF has developed and continues to maintain more than 145 projects throughout town, including traffic islands, parks (Vista, Centennial, Crossroads), Harvest Garden, five school sites, Town Hall campus, the Veterans Memorial, the Police Station, water tanks, historic Town gates and all Town entrance signs.

Hillsborough Beautification Foundation (HBF), founded in 1998, is dedicated to its mission statement “Enhancing the beauty of our public landscape, encouraging community engagement and civic pride.” HBF is a non-profit volunteer association, which does the work of a Parks Department without support of tax dollars.

HBF develops, beautifies and preserves more than 145 sites in our town, including all of our schools, islands, parks and public spaces. THIS IS AN INVALUABLE SERVICE TO THE TOWN OF HILLSBOROUGH, WHICH DOES NOT HAVE A PARKS DEPARTMENT TO DO THIS WORK.  Each year, 100% of tax-deductible donations received from our generous community go directly to new projects and to fund preservation of all completed projects.

A truly working Board of Trustees with broad levels of expertise (and no Executive Director) oversees the hands-on Development, Projects, and Communications Committees, and provides support for HBF’s Harvest Garden.

HBF has been and continues to be instrumental in upgrading the beauty and functionality of our Town’s public outdoor spaces.

The Harvest Garden is a community garden established in July 2010 on a previously vacant SFPUC owned lot in Hillsborough. The garden is funded by the Hillsborough Beautification Foundation.

Volunteers of all ages raise organic fruits and vegetables from seed to harvest. All produce grown is donated to local food banks. The mission of the garden is to educate and encourage Hillsborough residents to grow edible plants in our micro-climate and to expose children to vegetable gardening in hopes they will plant gardens of their own one day.

The Harvest Garden committee sponsors a High School Internship program, which runs from May through September. This program includes starting plants from seed, testing and amending soil, organic pest management and working with our young volunteers.

We have coordinated workshops in the garden with girls scouts, boy scouts, National Charities League, Young Men’s Service League, local garden clubs, the UCCE Master Gardeners of San Mateo and San Francisco Counties, and our local schools.

To date, more than 14,000 pounds of fresh organic produce has been donated to CALL Primrose, and Samaritan House, and our volunteers have logged thousands of hours in the garden. It is a wonderful place for residents with an interest in gardening to meet and share knowledge.

Join us in the garden on Tuesdays from 9:00-11:00 and some Saturday. All our welcome.
