HBF is made up of two primary committees, Development and Projects, in addition to Open Space and Undergrounding. Maintenance and Gate committees are included under the Projects Committee. Each committee selects new members based on need and interest from volunteers in the community. Over 60 volunteers currently make up the committees that enable HBF to have such a significant impact on the quality of life in Town.

Development Committee
The mission of the Development Committee is to raise funds for projects and raise awareness of HBF in the community.  To date, the committee has raised over two million dollars to support HBF’s projects.  There are several opportunities for volunteer assistance as the committee works on numerous activities:
  • Bi-annual newsletter – Spring and Fall
  • Fundraising through note writing campaign
  • Daffodil Planting – Fall, to date 25 public spaces have been planted with daffodils
  • Light up the Town – November/December event to celebrate the lighting of trees at Town Hall
  • Major Donors Party – Spring celebration in honor of annual donors who have contributed over $1000 to HBF
  • Celebrate May – Spring gathering held in a Hillsborough Garden to raise awareness of HBF and gather neighbors together
Projects Committee
The Projects Committee selects public areas in Town in need of beautification. The selections are often in response to requests from residents and may involve safety as well as aesthetic concerns.  The committee oversees the evaluation of the space and creation of an improvement plan and with Board approval, manages the work including the addition of irrigation as needed.  Approximately 10 new projects are evaluated each year.  The Projects Committee also has one member who serves as School Liaison.  This person meets regularly with the schools' administrations to target possible landscaping projects for HBF on the school campuses. In 2005, the committee requisitioned the creation of a marker to designate HBF projects.  These markers have been placed at newly improved sites so that citizens can appreciate the impact of their donations.

Maintenance
The Maintenance Committee evaluates each completed project monthly and schedules and supervises maintenance or suggests additional improvements as needed.

Gates
Because the gates of Hillsborough are a beautiful and unique feature of our Town, HBF has a special committee that selects public gates in need of maintenance and/or upkeep and beautification.  The committee solicits bids for refurbishment and/or maintenance of the gates and after Board approval, oversees the renovation.
